No More Dental Fear

We’re well aware that going to the dentist isn’t exactly anyone’s favorite activity, but for some, the nerves are enough to make them skip out on routine dental care for months, even years at a time. This puts their smile in danger, and inevitably, a painful dental emergency is bound to happen.

If you or your child have dental-related anxiety, the team at Progressive Dental Group empathizes with you, and we’re ready to help. If our warm and friendly team isn’t enough to calm your nerves, sedation is available upon request as well. These safe and gentle techniques can effectively take the stress out of appointments, so patients can finally get the quality dental care and healthy smiles they deserve. Oral Conscious Sedation

If you could take a pill that would automatically make you feel comfortable at the dentist, would you do it? If you have moderate to severe dental phobia, then that’s exactly how we can help.

With oral conscious sedation, one of our dentists will prescribe you medication to take at a predetermined time before your appointment. The goal is for you to already be sedated by the time you reach our office. You’ll remain awake, but you’ll be deeply mentally and physically relaxed. Time will seem to fly by very quickly, and you’ll likely only have a fuzzy memory of your visit afterward.

This form of sedation is also an excellent option for patients who require a large amount of dental work, or those who want multiple procedures completed in a single appointment in order to save time. Because of its strength, we require that a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment, and someone should keep an eye on you for a few hours afterwards as well.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

You probably know nitrous oxide by another name—laughing gas! It has been used for well over 100 years to help calm fearful dental patients, and it’s so safe and gentle that we can even use it with children.

We simply place a small nasal mask on a patient, and they breathe in a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide. After a minute or so, they should feel a warm blanket of relaxation come over their entire body. We can even adjust how much nitrous oxide a patient is getting throughout their visit to ensure they stay comfortable moment to moment.

The mask will stay on for the entire appointment, and when everything is finished and the mask is removed, the gas’ effects wear off almost instantly. In many cases, people are able to resume their daily routines right away without delay, helping their dental care fit easily into their schedule.
